Business 101 Tip: Don’t Put Your Customers At Risk

Today we’re writing to ask an important question: Are your assets safe?

With all the media coverage of hackers going after the big boys (think Russia and WannaCry), you might think that they wouldn’t bat an eye at your small business. But you’d be wrong. As with other crime, cyber crime is most often committed when the window is wide open.

Cyber Crime and Basic Security Protection

Think of how much more likely your valuables are to be stolen if you leave them in plain sight in an unlocked car. Similarly, small businesses are often easy targets for cyber crime because they don’t have basic security measures set up in the first place.

Even a mediocre hacker can exploit logins, payment transactions, and form submissions.

If your website isn’t secure, not only is your business in danger of being attacked, you’re also putting your web visitors at risk … which can damage your reputation and sales. Your customers’ security is YOUR security.

Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do to protect your business and your customers.

Here’s one of the most low-maintenance things you can do to keep the bad guys at bay: add an SSL Certificate to your site.

An SSL certificate works by creating a secure connection between a visitor’s browser and your domain server. It then encrypts data transmitted between the two. It also gives your URL a happy little https in front. This signals that your site is safe to browse and buy from.

Google loves HTTPS sites, and is putting an ever higher emphasis on SSL for its ranking algorithms.

At Cortez Web Services, we stand with Google, WordPress, and others in building a safer web, for you and your customers. Are you ready to join us? Check out our Mountain Hosting Package (on discount through July 31st) to get hosting with SSL!
